FUJIFILM Dimatix has introduced a new industrial inkjet printhead designed for hot-melt inks, targeting applications ranging from packaging and product marking to additive manufacturing and printed electronics.

The STARFIRE PhaseMaster is the latest addition to the company’s industrial printhead portfolio. Developed for high-speed scanning and single-pass printing systems, the new printhead supports applications requiring controlled ink deposition and operation at elevated temperatures.

According to the company’s announcement on September 23, PhaseMaster combines elements of its established STARFIRE platform with technology developed for its Galaxy HotMelt printhead range. The new model is designed to handle phase-change inks across a range of industrial printing processes.

The PhaseMaster printhead offers a resolution of 400 dpi, with droplet sizes ranging from 30 to 200 picoliters depending on its configuration.

It includes an integrated heater and temperature sensor and is designed to operate continuously at temperatures of up to 125°C. The printhead can also be configured to operate with or without ink recirculation.

FUJIFILM Dimatix says the system supports printing speeds exceeding 60 metres per minute, using multi-pulse jetting at frequencies of up to 30 kHz. Its design also includes replaceable and repairable components intended to support maintenance in industrial environments.

The technology is aimed at established markets such as packaging, coding and marking, and screen printing.

The company is also targeting industrial applications including additive manufacturing and printed electronics. One potential application involves etch-masking processes used in photovoltaic cell production, where precise material deposition is required.

These applications extend the printhead’s potential use beyond conventional graphic printing into industrial manufacturing processes.

FUJIFILM Dimatix is currently working with selected partners to develop products incorporating the PhaseMaster printhead.

The company expects the new model to become available worldwide in early 2027.

The announcement adds another option to the industrial inkjet market, where equipment manufacturers require printheads capable of handling different ink formulations, production speeds and operating conditions.

PhaseMaster’s support for hot-melt inks and its range of targeted applications could make it relevant to manufacturers developing printing systems for packaging, industrial marking and specialized material deposition.
