At Franchise Expo South, the Smallest Brands Get Their Own Aisle

For most people, franchising brings to mind established restaurant chains, fitness brands or service businesses with hundreds of locations. Franchise Expo South is setting aside part of its 2027 show floor for companies at the opposite end of that spectrum.

The Emerging Brands Pavilion is reserved for franchise concepts with 10 locations or fewer, giving young businesses their own space when the expo returns to Fort Lauderdale on February 5 and 6.

That puts companies still building their networks alongside more established franchise systems, and gives prospective operators a chance to meet businesses before they have expanded across dozens of territories. The organizer says visitors to the pavilion will often meet founders or senior executives directly.

Emerging brands are becoming a bigger part of the franchise expo circuit

The Fort Lauderdale pavilion is not an isolated experiment.

The same event group is also running Emerging Brands Pavilions at its franchise expos in Dallas, Cincinnati and other U.S. markets, while the International Franchise Expo in New York will feature a similar section in June 2027. In each case, the format is built around franchise systems with 10 units or fewer.

That recurring format suggests early-stage concepts are becoming a more deliberate part of the franchise exhibition business.

For younger brands, the appeal is straightforward. A trade show provides access to prospective franchisees in markets where the company may not yet have a presence. For visitors, it creates a contrast between established systems with large networks and concepts that are still trying to build their first wave of operators.

Franchise Expo South is especially relevant to that expansion strategy because the organizer targets entrepreneurs from Florida, the southeastern United States and Latin America. South Florida is presented as a gateway to international markets, giving young franchise systems an opportunity to look beyond a single U.S. territory.

A show floor that reaches beyond restaurants

The broader expo currently lists more than 125 franchise brands, spanning wellness, pet services, food, medical concepts and other sectors.

That mix is important because franchising has moved well beyond the restaurant chains most consumers associate with the model. Service businesses, health and wellness concepts and specialist consumer services now sit alongside food brands on franchise exhibition floors.

Franchise Expo South will also include educational sessions and a Business Resource Center, where prospective and existing franchise owners can meet legal, financial and operational service providers.

But the Emerging Brands Pavilion may provide the clearest snapshot of where the franchise pipeline begins.

Some exhibitors will arrive in Fort Lauderdale with established networks and recognizable names. Others will arrive with fewer than 10 locations, looking for the franchisees who could determine where those brands go next.

Franchise Expo South 2027 will take place February 5–6 at the Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
