New housing, infrastructure projects and industrial investment are reshaping demand for paints and coatings in Egypt, while water-based and protective technologies gain a larger role in the market.
Egypt Coatings Show will return to Cairo from January 10 to 12, 2027, bringing together companies working across raw materials, formulation, production machinery, laboratory equipment and testing technologies.
The event comes as Egypt’s paints and coatings market continues to expand alongside construction and industrial development. The official Egypt Coatings Show website currently places the market value at $1.36 billion, a figure that also matches Mordor Intelligence’s 2026 estimate.
But the more interesting question is what is creating that demand.
New cities and infrastructure are changing the market
Construction remains one of the strongest drivers.
An industry report published by Egypt Coatings Show points to housing developments, new urban areas, coastal projects and major infrastructure investment as important sources of demand for both decorative and industrial coatings.
Abdullah Tawakol, Managing Director of El Mohandes Jotun, told the Coatings Group that both public and private projects had contributed to strong market growth, particularly in new urban developments and coastal regions.
Housing is only part of the picture.
Road networks, energy projects, petrochemical facilities and development around the Suez Canal Economic Zone create demand for coatings designed to protect steel, concrete and other infrastructure against corrosion, chemicals and harsh environmental conditions.
That helps explain why protective coatings are becoming increasingly important alongside conventional architectural paints.
Water-based coatings are gaining ground
The Egyptian market is also changing in terms of the technologies manufacturers use.
Mordor Intelligence estimates that water-borne coatings accounted for 49.55% of the market in 2025 and projects the segment to grow faster than the overall market through 2031. The research firm links that expansion to environmental requirements, public-sector purchasing and growing demand for lower-VOC products.
Water-based systems can reduce the use of conventional solvents, making them relevant to projects where emissions and indoor air quality are receiving greater attention.
At the same time, the transition brings its own challenges. Egypt faces significant water constraints, while manufacturers must also manage the cost and availability of imported pigments, resins and specialty chemicals. Mordor identifies currency-driven raw material volatility as one of the main pressures facing the sector.
Coatings are becoming more specialized
Demand is also spreading into applications that require more than appearance alone.
Protective coatings for energy and petrochemical infrastructure, fire-protection systems, automotive coatings and specialized industrial finishes are becoming more visible in the market.
Mordor Intelligence notes that local production of higher-specification coatings is emerging as an opportunity, including products that were previously more dependent on imports.
This shift makes formulation technology, testing and manufacturing equipment increasingly important to the coatings supply chain.
Egypt Coatings Show reflects that broader structure. Its exhibition categories include pigments, polymers, resins, solvents and additives alongside mixers, mills, filling systems, corrosion testing, colour measurement and process-control technologies.
Cairo show returns in January
The 2027 edition will take place at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre in Cairo.
The organizer currently lists more than 115 exhibiting brands and expects several thousand industry professionals across the three-day event. Those figures are organizer projections rather than audited attendance results.
For the wider market, the story behind the event goes beyond paint colours and decorative finishes. Egypt’s construction pipeline, industrial development and changing environmental requirements are gradually pushing the coatings industry toward more specialized and technically demanding products.
